Man attempts to murder ex-girlfriend in Oshikoto

WINDHOEK, 19 JUN (NAMPA) – A 47-year-old man is expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday for attempted murder of a former lover on Saturday.
A crime report issued on Sunday by Head of Public Relations Division in the Namibian Police Force, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi said the 28-year-old victim and her ex-boyfriend were at cuca shops in the Uuhama location of the Oshikoto Region, when an argument erupted between them at about 17h11.
The suspect allegedly drew out a knife and stabbed the victim five times on the head, back and on her left shoulder, causing serious injuries. She was admitted to the Onandjokwe Hospital.
Shikwambi said they were apparently in a relationship for seven years before the break up, and have a six-year-old son.
The man was arrested on the same day and police investigations continue.
In an unrelated matter, three people died and were burned beyond recognition after two sedans collided head on about 60 kilometres from Karibib towards Okahandja on Friday between 20h00 and 21h00.
The cars caught fire immediately. One person survived the incident and was admitted to the Katutura State Hospital in a critical condition.
The bodies of the deceased have not yet been identified and further details of the vehicles are also unknown as both were burned beyond recognition.
The unidentified bodies of the deceased persons were taken to the Walvis Bay Police Mortuary.
Meanwhile, on Saturday one person died when the driver of a pick-up carrying three occupants lost control of the vehicle and it overturned at the Omaalala village in the Oshana Region around 00h00.
The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Frans Nangolo Pokolo.
Another male passenger, aged 55, sustained serious injuries but is in a stable condition.
The 28-year-old driver survived unhurt.
In a separate incident, a man was discovered hanging dead from a tree at the King Kauluma village in the Oshikoto Region around 06h50.
Gideon Mwashekele, 33, from the Omutsegonime village in the same region used a wire to hang himself after an alleged argument with his girlfriend the previous day.
In Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region, a 23-month-old baby drowned in a water pond at the Choto compound.
Passers-by who found the body at about19h00, alerted the police.
