WINDHOEK, 15 JUN (NAMPA) – The British High Commission here hosted a garden party in celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s 91st birthday on Thursday.
Queen Elizabeth II celebrates two birthdays every year - her actual birthday on 21 April and her official birthday, usually on the second Saturday in June.
During the celebration, High Commissioner to Namibia Jo Lomas shared some memories of the Queen’s visit to Namibia in 1991 - a year after Namibia gained its independence.
“For someone who is 91, sure enough she remembered her visit here in 1991 including her trip to the north,” she said.
Lomas and all other British Heads of Mission visited the Queen at Buckingham Palace in London last month.
She said the Queen shared her delight about Namibia’s progress since her visit.
The British are involved in various projects in Namibia, Lomas added, including supporting the Ministry of Finance to build capacity of its Financial Intelligence Centre.
They also support the Women’s Leadership Centre to address harmful cultural practices.
Several Cabinet ministers, diplomats, British businesspeople and other invited guests attended the event.
