WINDHOEK, 15 JUN (NAMPA) - Preparations for the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias game against the Pumas in the SuperSport Rugby Challenge on Saturday are on track following the arrival of the two outside broadcast (OB) vehicles in Windhoek on Thursday.
The match will be televised live on SuperSport 1 on Digital Satellite Television (DStv) from 13h00 Namibian time.
This will only be the second time that SuperSport broadcasts a sports event from Namibia live after a boxing match in December 2015.
Speaking to Nampa following the arrival of the OB vans, Multichoice Namibia Sales and Brand Manager Russell Slinger declared that everything was in place for the big match.
We are looking forward to broadcasting a high quality game come Saturday, he said.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Namibia Rugby Union, Elizma Theron was equally ecstatic but wary of a tough match against the Pumas.
It is a pity that our senior players are in Uruguay, but we are confident that the team we have right now will represent the country with pride, she said.
Theron said at an earlier event that Namibia taking part in the challenge is crucial for growth of Namibian rugby.
The experience gained by these players from this tournament will go a long way in making sure that we achieve our goal of winning a match at the World Cup, she added.
The match will be screened just before the South Africa versus France match.
Multichoice will host about 70 loyal subscribers on the day with various activities planned for the day as part of its 25th year of operations in Namibia.
Windhoek Draught Welwitschias has thus far only won one game in the competition, when they defeated Hino Valke 45-43 at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek.
The team has lost six games in the competition against the Valke (33-50), Xerox Golden Lions (14-112), Vodacom Blue Bulls (25-50), Steval Pumas (08-64), Blue Bulls (25-50) and the latest game at home by (0-84) by the Xerox Golden Lions.
The SuperSport Rugby Challenge is organised by the South African Rugby Union and this year takes place from 22 April to 16 July.
This will be the last match for the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias in the SuperSport Rugby Challenge this year.
