WINDHOEK, 04 JUN (NAMPA) The Windhoek Draught Welwitschias were on Saturday demolished by the Vodacom Blue Bulls in their SuperSport Rugby Challenge encounter in Pretoria, South Africa.
The Namibian outfit lost the match 7-92 which is their second worst defeat of this years campaign. The Bulls lead the game 52-0 at half-time.
The Namibians only ran in one try on the day while their counterparts treated their home fans to a 15-try demolition of their opponents. Nickin Cloete scored the Welwitschias only try, while Dirk van Weidts converted from the spot.
Boom Prinsloo (two), Franco Naude (three), Kefentse Mahlo (three), Clyde Davids, Shaun Adendorff (two), Brian Leitch, Andre Warner (two) and Earl Douwrie (one) scored the Bulls tries.
Tinus de Beer converted six times from the spot and Joshua Stander converted five times.
The Windhoek Draught Welwitschias have thus far only won one game in the competition. Their first-ever victory in the SuperSport Rugby Challenge came last Saturday when they defeated Hino Valke 45-43 at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek.
With the defeat over the weekend in South Africa, the Welwitschias have now lost five games in the competition, with the four of them coming in the first round games of the competition against the Valke (33-50), Xerox Golden Lions (14-112), the Vodacom Blue Bulls (25-50) and the Steval Pumas, 08-64.
Known as the SuperSport Rugby Challenge for sponsorship reasons, this is the first edition of the Rugby Challenge - the secondary domestic rugby union competition in South Africa.
The competition is organised by the South African Rugby Union and takes place from 22 April to 16 July 2017.
The Welwitschias feature in the competition that is played by all 14 South African provincial union sides.
