OTJIWARONGO, 01 JUN (NAMPA) - A nine-month pregnant woman was on Wednesday arrested for possession of mandrax and cannabis at Otjiwarongo’s Orwetoveni residential area.
Beverly Urikhos, 25, appeared in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court shortly after her arrest and Magistrate Joseph Menos Shikongo granted her bail of N.dollars 5 000.
The magistrate explained to Urikhos her legal right to engage a lawyer of her choice; apply for a State funded lawyer or defend herself in court.
Urikhos chose the latter option.
Public Prosecutor, Coleen Yisa represented the State in the matter.
Urikhos was arrested along with a 53-year-old man.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Thursday that suspect is expected to appear in court Thursday.
The two were arrested by the police’s drug law enforcement unit after a tip-off.
Mbeha said the drugs had a street value of close to N.dollars 30 000.
In a separate incident, a 46-year-old man was also arrested here the same day after he was found in possession of cannabis in the same area.
The cannabis has a street value of over N.dollars 2 000.
Mbeha said the man was arrested during a police operation and will appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The police officer warned all drug dealers in the region to immediately stop their illegal dealings before they too get arrested.
“We have planted informers everywhere in this region, therefore, we will arrest all criminals and drug dealers in Otjozondjupa,” said Mbeha.
Police investigations in both matters continue.
