Keetmanshoop murder suspect arraigned

KEETMANSHOOP, 03 JUN (NAMPA) – A 24-year-old man arrested after the alleged murder of a man and assault of a woman Wednesday night made his first appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Dominikus Matroos allegedly stabbed Katrina Rupping, 43, with an okapi knife in the head after she told him that she did not have N.dollars 200 he had asked from her.
The incident occurred in front of a shebeen at around 19h00 in Keetmanshoop’s Ileni informal settlement.
Matroos had accompanied Rupping to the shebeen where she went to buy something, court documents on the matter showed.
After the stabbing, a 25-year-old man, Rajive Goliath and some other people who were in the vicinity came to Rupping’s aid to take her to the hospital.
They walked with her to a four-way stop near the shebeen to flag down a taxi when suddenly Matroos appeared and allegedly stabbed Goliath in the left side of his chest.
Goliath died from the stab wound, while Rupping survived the stabbing.
Matroos remains in custody while his case was postponed to 13 July 2017 by Magistrate Murray Shikongo for further police investigations.
The suspect indicated to the court that he would be applying for bail in the meantime.
Prosecutor Adriana Sangunji represented the State in the matter.
