Promote intra-Africa trade to achieve SDG Eight
26 May 2017 16:00pm
WINDHOEK, 26 MAY (NAMPA) - Inter-regional trade should be promoted to attain Goal Eight of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), member of the Junior National Council (JNC) and //Kharas Junior Regional Councillor, Pauline Pamuli said.
Speaking during the debate on SDG Eight in the National Council (NC) on Friday, Pamuli said Namibia and other African countries have to coordinate production so that each one produces something another does not, which would promote trade among each other.
SDG Eight is targeted at promoting sustained and inclusive growth, full, productive and decent work for all.
The JNC member said a country such as Namibia is rich in natural resources, but does not reap the full benefits of these resources because they are exported as unfinished products.
She said Government should provide financial assistance for innovation so that Namibians process natural and raw materials into finished products for the local and international markets.
Pamuli urged Namibians to turn land into business opportunities.
Namibian land is owned by absentee land owners and foreigners, but land should be utilised for the benefit of its own people.
The first JNC session was held under the theme Parliament engages youth perspective on the SDGs.
The council adjourned until further notice.
