KEETMANSHOOP, 24 MAY (NAMPA) – A 16-year-old girl was arrested in Keetmanshoop late Tuesday afternoon and charged with the murder of a baby girl of one year and five months old.
The suspect allegedly stabbed the baby twice in the stomach with a knife while she was lying on a bed. The incident occurred on Tuesday between 15h00 and 16h00 in the Ileni informal settlement in Tseiblaagte.
The Namibian Police Force’s //Kharas Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo confirmed the details to Nampa Tuesday evening. He said the motive of the alleged murder is suspected to be jealousy.
The father of the deceased is reportedly the suspect's ex-boyfriend. The baby’s mother briefly went to neighbours next door to collect something when her baby was stabbed, Mubebo said.
The suspect is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
