OSHAKATI, 23 MAY (NAMPA) – There has been an increase in exhibitors at the Oshakati Annual Totem Expo, the Oshakati Town Council Public Relations Officer Katarina Kamari said on Tuesday.
She told Nampa 180 exhibitors registered this year, compared to the 160 of last year.
All 14 regions are expected to be represented at the Expo, which takes place at the Independence Stadium from Thursday until 03 June.
This is the sixth consecutive year the town council hosts the event.
The totem float parade takes place on Friday, from the town’s main street up to the stadium.
“Previously, the Expo only ran for eight days, but this year it will run for 10 days to give exhibitors more time to showcase their products and services successfully.”
Founding President Sam Nujoma will officially open the show on Saturday.
“Fifteen cultural groups will take part in a competition, which is the core entertainment of the Totem Expo,” said Kamari.
Cultural groups from Erongo, Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshikoto, Omaheke, Otjozondjupa and Zambezi regions will compete for a trophy and cash prizes.
Each group will also receive a N.dollars 3 000 participation fee.
A gala dinner held at the town on 29 April raised nearly N.dollars 1 million for the Expo that involves commercial activities and a parade of floats showcasing the totems of participating groups’ respective regions down Oshakati’s main road.
