WINDHOEK, 23 OCT (NAMPA) The National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO) Youth League (YL) will hold its elective congress at Okakarara this coming weekend.
The elective congress was expected to take place in July this year, but was postponed to this coming weekend, and will be taking place from Friday until Sunday in this Otjozondjupa town.
Nudo YL Secretary of Administration, Owen Tjiramba informed Nampa on Wednesday that apart from electing the youth organisations new leadership, the congress will also deliberate on its organisational report and financial reports, as well as the amendment of its constitution.
The congress will furthermore discuss various socio-economic and political issues affecting the Namibian youth, whilst deliberating on its input into the partys strategies for the countrys upcoming general elections in 2014, with a specific focus on voter apathy amongst young people.
Positions to be contested include that of Secretary-General (SG), Deputy Secretary-General, national treasurer, deputy national treasurer as well as national organiser and deputy national organiser.
The position of SG, which is currently occupied by Mbamunondjamo Kahangoro, will be contested by Tjiramba and Nambee Upendura.
Upendura is currently the leader of the Nudo branch in the Erongo Region, and is also a member of the party's Central Committee.
Pro-Laste Ngueumenga and Gloria Mbazuvara are contesting the position of Deputy SG.
Ngueumenga is the Nudo Regional Electoral Coordinator for the Omusati and Kunene Regions, and a former party representative in the National Youth Council. He was also a former member of the DTA Youth League.
Close to 135 young people from across the country are expected to attend the congress, set to take place at a venue in the towns central business district (CBD).
