RUNDU, 15 MAY (NAMPA) – The Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) regional office in Rundu plans to meet with its retired members here on Wednesday.
The meeting will take place at the Roman Catholic Church Hall and is aimed at providing advice and guidance to retired GIPF members on how best they can manage the social circumstances and challenges they face on retirement.
The head of the regional office, Priscilla Mbereshu said in a statement issued here on Tuesday that members from Khomas, Kavango East and West regions are expected to attend.
The meeting will also be used to promote the National Pensioners Association of Namibia (NAPAN). Launched in 2006, NAPAN was formed for members who have retired and who receive an income from GIPF. Should these members have complaints, the problems are tackled by the association.
“The meeting will provide a forum for the examination and discussion of all matters relating to GIPF pension schemes and will be used to obtain information from and cooperate with other bodies concerned with the advancement of pensioner interests on a national level,” Mbereshu said.
She added that many of the retired members in the two Kavango regions struggle with problems like a lack of decent housing, electricity and water.
GIPF has 21 662 retired members in both the Kavango East and West regions.
