Police record two culpable homicides

OSHAKATI, 14 MAY (NAMPA) – Two culpable homicides were reported in the Omaheke and Oshana regions over the weekend.
A crime report issued by Head of Public Relations Division Namibian Police Force, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi on Sunday states that the incidents happened on Friday and Saturday.
It was reported that on Friday at about 18h20 at Oshinyadhila No 2 in Oshana Region, a driver of a pick-up, who was driving on a railway gravel road at the village hit a speed hump while allegedly driving at a high speed.
Police said this caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, overturning it and killing one person in the process.
The deceased, identified as 25-year-old Jonas Nuyoma from Ompundja village died on the spot, while two passengers sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Oshakati State Hospital.
In Omaheke Region at Epukiro on Saturday close to farm Otjongoro, a driver patrolling in his vehicle at 14h00 allegedly hit and killed a seven-year-old boy while reversing the vehicle within the farm.
The boy died on the spot according to the report.
Both the deceased’s next of kin were informed.
Cases of culpable homicide were opened and police investigations continue.
