Man falls off tower in Kavango East and dies

OSHAKATI, 14 MAY (NAMPA) – A 25-year-old man died when he fell from an electric power tower after he got electrocuted while doing maintenance work at Hoha Village in the Kavango East Region on Friday.
According to a crime report issued by Head of Public Relations Division Namibian Police Force Chief Inspector, Kauna Shikwambi on Sunday and also confirmed by Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Kavango East Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton, the incident happened at about 11h00.
The deceased, identified as Johannes Gideon and an employee of Ekodi Investment Company, was allegedly busy on a power line tower when he was electrocuted, causing him to fall and instantly die.
Gideon was a resident of Omuthiya village in the Oshikoto Region and his next of kin were informed.
In an unrelated matter, at Odibo village in the Ohangwena Region, the body of a 32-year-old man was discovered hanging from a tree on Saturday with a rope around the neck.
Police suspect that Abraham Shiwomwenyo Kayofa committed suicide.
No suicide note was found at the scene and police investigations continue.
The next of kin were informed.
