ONGWEDIVA, 10 MAY (NAMPA) – The Namibian police are yet to arrest the Namibian Defense Force member suspected of raping a 13-year-old girl in the Oshikoto Region, as he reportedly returned to work.
Oshikoto Region Deputy Crime Investigations Coordinator, Chief Inspector Edna Nawa on Wednesday told Nampa that a warrant for his arrest has been sent to the NDF headquarters in Windhoek.
The alleged rape happened at Onhiihwa village at around 21h00 on Thursday.
The 58-year-old suspect, who is the victim’s uncle, lured the minor into some bushes after he promised her money, then allegedly had sexual intercourse with her under coercive circumstances.
In an unrelated matter, a 59-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on accusations of attempted rape.
According to Nawa, the suspect and the 8-year-old victim were watching television at the suspect’s house at Omuthiya on Tuesday when he convinced her to escort him to the neighbour’s house to buy sweets for her.
Nawa said that on their way there, the accused allegedly accosted the victim and touched her genitals.
The incident was reported by the victim’s guardian.
