HELAO NAFIDI, 09 MAY (NAMPA) – The Helao Nafidi Town Council is constructing 70 houses in response to Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Sophia Shaningwa’s call for affordable housing.
Helao Nafidi Mayor Eliaser Nghipangelwa told Nampa on Monday the two-bedroom houses will be sold for between N.dollars 180 000 and N.dollars 190 000.
Fifty houses will be constructed at Omafo-Engela Extension One and Two, and 20 at the town’s Ohangwena suburb.
The town council has invested N.dollars 11 million in the housing project.
“Twenty-four of those houses are already under construction and we believe we will manage in the same way we have finished the construction of the new open market at our Oshikango suburb,” Nghipangelwa said.
The town council has also identified two sites at Oshikango, where current residents of the Katwitwi informal settlement will be provided with plots serviced with water, electricity and streets.
Nghipangelwa said many Katwitwi residents use their homes, mostly shacks, for business purposes also.
“We want to clean Katwitwi up because the settlement is in a very bad condition, besides being in a flood-prone area,” the mayor said.
