OTJIWARONGO, 08 MAY (NAMPA) The Namibian Newspaper Cup 2017 champions - Otjozondjupa Regions under-20 football team - on Monday started their four-day tour of the region.
The 20 players tour started at Okahandja Monday and ends Thursday.
They will also visit Okakarara, Otavi, Grootfontein, Tsumkwe and Otjiwarongo to thank their supporters.
They are accompanied by Otjozondjupa Governor Otto Ipinge.
The team defeated Erongo 2-1 in the finals of the newspaper cup in Swakopmund last month.
Community members here have pledged gifts to the team, including N.dollars 20 000 from the Office of the Otjozondjupa Regional Governor and N.dollars 10 000 from the Okahandja mayors office.
Speaking to Nampa before they left Otjiwarongo for Okahandja, the 19-year-old striker of the team, Rivaldo Hifitikeko, said it feels amazing to get such special treatment from the regional leadership.

It was not easy for us to go into Erongos home ground and win the finals, said Hifitikeko.
Another player, 18-year-old Victory Mingeri, said the team did not expect such heroic treatment and thanked Ipinge for leading by example.
Otjozondjupa Regional Football League Chairperson, Samuel Jantze and his executive members, as well as officials of the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service also form part of the tour.
The Otjozondjupa team won the annual floating trophy and N.dollars 35 000.
The teams captain, Michael Kamuserandu received the Man of the Match award and N.dollars 500, the award for top goal scorer with five goals and N.dollars 2 000 plus three other trophies.
Host Erongo won N.dollars 20 000 in second place, while Hardap ended third after beating Khomas 1-0 and won N.dollars 10 000.
Otjozondjupa has now won the cup three times in 2006, 2013 and 2017.
