RUNDU, 23 OCT (NAMPA) - The Swapo-Party Youth League (SPYL)s Secretary for the two Kavango regions, Maurus Nekaro Junior has been suspended by the SPYL Kavango regional executive committee.
His suspension is effective from this past Sunday, following a SPYL regional executive committee meeting held here on Saturday.
Nekaro stands accused of incompetence and failure to comply with the directives and decisions of the SPYL Kavango regional executive committee.
SPYL Secretary for Information, Publicity and Mobilisation for Kavango East and Kavango West, Petrus Kashumah confirmed this to Nampa on Wednesday, saying the partys youth leaders in the two regions have been complaining for too long about Nekaros incompetence as he had on several occasions failed to advance the ideas and interests of the youth league to the partys regional executive committee.
Nekaro is furthermore accused of withholding information, as he had apparently failed variously to give feedback to the youth league about meetings he had held with the Swapo Party regional executive committee.
The youth leader was also accused of poor communication skills, as he is often in the dark about activities of the party, and that of the youth wing.
The former SPYL regional secretary apparently failed to attend crucial SPYL meetings on several occasions, and only concentrated on his private businesses.
In addition, he is accused of failing to register new members in the regions membership book, which is still empty, despite it being issued to him during September last year.
The SPYL mobiliser noted that the 22-member SPYL regional executive committee thus decided to suspend their secretary after receiving concrete evidence that Nekaro had violated the SPYL constitution by not carrying out his duties.
He has since been barred from entering his office, pending investigations by the youth leagues national executive committee.
In the meantime, SPYL Kavango regional treasurer Anakleta Kudumo will be acting in that position until a new secretary is elected.
Approached for comment, Nekaro confirmed to this agency that he received a letter of suspension on Monday at about 13h00.
He claimed not to know the reasons behind his suspension, only saying that he was suspended while he was attending a meeting in Windhoek.
