ONGWEDIVA, 06 MAY (NAMPA) - Presidential Advisor on Youth Matters and Enterprise Development, Daisry Mathias has encouraged young people to engage in platforms that enable discussion on challenges and opportunities for local enterprises.
Mathias was speaking during the official opening of the first ever Oshana Youth Expo at Oshakati on Friday.
This expo presents an opportunity for the youth to reflect on how we should advocate for, associate our networks to and facilitate the development of youth enterprises, from local town level, to national level, she said.
The expo provides a platform for enterprising young people to showcase and market their goods and services, while broadening their business networks to prospective markets. It is taking place under the theme Connecting young minds in business.
The youth advisor commended the youth in Oshana, particularly the Oshana Youth Forum, for taking the initiative to organise the regions first youth expo.
I hope this is not just going to be a once-off event, she said to the organisers.
Oshakati Mayor Angelus Iyambo encouraged young people to seek training in entrepreneurship, financial management, leadership skills, as well as mentorship programmes.
I would also like the Ministry of Trade and Industry to look into supporting youth initiatives such as the expo for the betterment and development of the country, he said.
Claudia Iiyambo, one of the exhibitors at the expo, sells handmade bags and jewellery.
This is the first time I have an opportunity to showcase my products and I am grateful because I normally just operate from home, Iiyambo said.
The expo end Sunday.
