Otavi murder accused remanded in custody

OTJIWARONGO, 04 MAY (NAMPA) - A 22-year-old man accused of stabbing and killing his 28-year-old girlfriend at Otavi on Sunday, appeared in the Otavi Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Domingo An-Aobeb made his first court appearance before Otavi Magistrate Joseph Menos Shikongo.
Shikongo explained the legal right of the accused to apply for a State-funded lawyer through the Ministry of Justice’s Directorate of Legal Aid, engage his own lawyer or defend himself in court.
An-Aobeb opted to apply for the Legal Aid lawyer.
He was remanded in custody and his case postponed to 03 August 2017 to allow him to acquire legal representation and to allow for further police investigations.
Toini Amuthitu represented the State in the matter.
The 28-year-old Rencia Hoakhoas died in the Otavi clinic after allegedly being stabbed by An-Aobeb at Otavi Sunday night.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naukalemo Andreas told Nampa in an interview on Monday Hoakhoas and her boyfriend allegedly had a heated quarrel at their house in Otavi.
It is alleged that An-Aobeb pulled out a knife during the quarrel and stabbed her.
It is still not known what the two were quarrelling about.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
