WALVIS BAY, 01 MAY (NAMPA) – A 29-year-old cattle herder from Wellem Post Resettlement Farm was found dead next to a dressed horse near Otjimbingwe Police Station Saturday evening.
Namibian Police Force Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu identified the deceased as Thomas Haimbodi, whose body was found under a tree next to the horse.
“It is suspected the deceased was kicked several times by a horse when he was trying to ride it to go back to the farm after drinking in Otjimbingwe.”
Iikuyu said the deceased and a co-worker on Saturday morning rode from the farm that is some 10 kilometres from Otjimbingwe for relaxation.
The police report says Haimbodi’s colleague noticed that he and the horse were missing later that evening but assumed they had travelled to the farm.
Iikuyu said a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the actual cause of the herder’s death.
His next of kin were informed and police investigations continue.
