KEETMANSHOOP, 25 APR (NAMPA) – Minister of Environment and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta highlighted the importance of education in the realisation of the ideals of the Harambee Prosperity Plan during the belated Independence Day Celebrations at Aus on Saturday.
In a summary of the event availed to Nampa by !Nami#Nus Constituency Councillor Jan Scholtz on Tuesday, Shifeta said parents have a significant influence on their children reaching educational milestones.
He encouraged them to take this role seriously and to help children study hard and stay in school.
Shifeta also emphasised the importance of upholding the Namibian Constitution, urging all citizens to do their part in this regard.
He condemned the misuse of alcohol, urging drinkers to desist from copious consumption of the drug.
Scholtz said around 1 000 people, including visitors from Lüderitz in the same constituency, attended the celebrations.
Namibia celebrates Independence Day on 21 March every year since 1990.
In an update on developments at the Aus settlement, Scholtz said contractors are busy with the creation of 157 flush toilets.
“This is done under the Harambee Prosperity Plan to gradually, but effectively, end the bucket system and in the process create employment for residents of Aus.”
