OTJIWARONGO, 24 APR (NAMPA) - A 27-year-old man sustained serious head injuries Monday morning when the pick-up he was driving hit a cow and killed it on the road between Otjiwarongo and Kalkfeld.
The accident occurred at about 05h00, approximately 6 kilometres outside Otjiwarongo.
He was travelling alone.
Namibian Police Force Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Co-ordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naukalemo Andreas told Nampa the man was airlifted from Otjiwarongo to Windhoek in a critical condition.
He was first admitted to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital shortly after the accident.
Andreas on Monday issued a stern warning to owners of cattle roaming the public roads unguarded in the region.
“These cattle are risking the lives of many motorists as it is difficult to see a cow at night.”
Andreas urged farmers in the region to keep their livestock in fenced-off areas.
