Man drowns in Zambezi

WINDHOEK, 20 APR (NAMPA) – A 30-year-old man drowned in floodwater on Tuesday at Kalonda village in the Zambezi Region.
The daily crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force’s Head of Public Relations, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi on Thursday the deceased was identified as Patrick Manugu, a Zambian national.
The incident occurred at around 17h00, when Manugu’s canoe capsized.
His next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.
In a separate incident, four-year-old David Uugwanga Shaninga drowned in a pond on Tuesday at around 16h30.
The incident occurred at Onaihenda village in the Omusati Region.
Shaninga had been with his grandmother, who was looking after livestock, when he went missing.
His grandmother and neighbours started searching for him and found his body in the pond.
Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man sustained serious head injuries when the helicopter he was flying, crashed.
The accident occurred at about 16h45 last Friday at Farm Morester in the Omaheke Region, but was only reported to the police on Tuesday.
A 29-year-old passenger sustained slight injuries.
The police could not establish what caused the accident and police investigations continue.
