Two men arraigned for murder of their wives in Kavango West

RUNDU, 19 APR (NAMPA) – A 31-year-old man from the Sawato village in the Kavango West Region was arrested on Saturday for the murder of his wife earlier that same day.
He was denied bail on Tuesday and his case postponed to 22 June this year for further investigation, Regional Court Prosecutor Albertus Titus told Nampa on Wednesday.
Titus said the wife died from a of a blunt-force strike to her head.
He said the accused and his wife were looking after cattle when she was allegedly struck with a wooden object to the head, killing her.
Titus said the accused’s version is that he was throwing the wooden object towards the cattle to get them to move into a certain direction when he accidentally hit his wife.
The next of kin of the deceased have been informed.
Another man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly strangling his wife to death at the Sikumba village in the Kavango West Region on the same day.
The 37-year-old suspect was denied bail on Tuesday and his case postponed to 21 June this year for further investigation.
Titus said the accused and his wife were coming from a shebeen when an argument broke out between them. This allegedly led to him strangling his wife.
Both men were informed to engage legal representatives of their choice or apply for lawyers from Government.
They appeared before Assistant Magistrate Rufinus Tjikerwa.
