Otjozondjupa and Erongo through to newspaper cup final

SWAKOPMUND, 17 APR (NAMPA) – The final battle to win the 17th edition of The Namibian Newspaper Cup tournament will be between Erongo and Otjozondjupa at Swakopmund on Monday.
The Otjozondjupa under-20 team beat Khomas 4-3 on penalties in the second semi-final match after Hardap suffered the same defeat to host Erongo in the first semi-final game on Sunday.
Khomas and Hardap will face-off in the third place play-off on Monday.
The game between Khomas and Otjozondjupa saw a penalty in the first two minutes of the first half in favour of Otjozondjupa, which was successfully taken by team captain Michael Kamuserandu.
Tuhafeni Leonard from Khomas responded a few minutes later with a goal to even the score.
In the second half, Kamuserandu received another penalty which he converted to put his team in the lead again.
Leonard once again responded with another goal which sent game to a penalty shootout.
The four-day competition at the Vineta Sports Stadium comes to an end on Monday.
Fourteen teams from all 14 regions participated, with defending champions Oshana losing the battle in the first round after a 3-1 defeat by Hardap on Saturday.
Otjozondjupa last won this cup when they hosted the competition in 2013 and Erongo won it the previous year.
