OSHAKATI, 15 APR (NAMPA) - Three people including the driver died on the spot when the pick-up they were travelling in was in collision head-on with an Iveco minibus between Ondangwa and Omuthiya on Thursday.
The incident happened at around 18h00.
Namibian Police Force Oshikoto Region Deputy Crime Investigations Coordinator, Chief Inspector Edna Nawa confirmed the incident on Friday.
It is alleged the pick-up that was carrying six passengers in total was travelling from Ondangwa to Omuthiya when it swayed out of its lane to avoid cattle standing on the road.
Nawa said the driver then allegedly lost control and collided head-on with the minibus traveling in the opposite direction from Swakopmund.
“Both vehicles overturned,” said Nawa.
The bus was reportedly carrying 20 passengers who all survived but were admitted to the Onandjokwe State Hospital for observation.
The deceased were identified as 48-year-old Tangeni Fillemon (driver), Victoria Iishuna, 45 and Magnaem Ishuna, 3. Their next of kin were informed.
Three passengers seated at the back of the pick-up sustained multiple injuries.
A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
