OTJIWARONGO, 13 APR (NAMPA) - Eight people survived a road accident Wednesday evening after a 16-seater minibus they were in overturned outside Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region.
A seven-year-old boy was, however, on Thursday still in critical condition at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital, where all injured persons were taken.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha on Thursday said the accident occurred some 40 kilometres south of Otjiwarongo on the B1 road.
Mbeha said the 37-year-old driver allegedly lost control over the bus on a wet portion of the road, causing it to roll once.
“The bus had eight occupants in it, including the driver, and they all sustained slight to serious injuries,” said Mbeha.
The bus was travelling from Oshakati in the Oshana Region to the capital at the time of accident.
Mbeha thus called on drivers to be cautious of the wet road as it is raining in Otjozondjupa.
A high volume of vehicles use the road, and traffic will increase over this Easter weekend.
