WINDHOEK, 04 APR (NAMPA) A 22-year-old woman was arrested after dumping her newborn baby in a mahangu field at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region.
The suspect allegedly wrapped the newborn baby girl in a plastic bag before disposing of her in the field.
The daily crime report issued by the Namibian Police Forces Head of Public Relations, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi on Tuesday said the suspect was arrested on Thursday after a passer-by found the baby crying in the field and alerted the police.
The baby was taken to the Eenhana State Hospital where she later died on Friday.
In a separate incident, a 39-year-old man died on the spot after he was stabbed in the neck with a knife.
The incident took place at Tseiblaagte in Keetmanshoop in the //Kharas region on Saturday at about 04h00.
Two suspects aged 15 and 17 were arrested.
The deceased was allegedly trying to stop a quarrel between the two suspects when one of the suspects stabbed him.
Kanguatjivi said one of the suspects is a relative of the deceased.
The deceaseds next of kin have been informed and police investigations into the matter continue.
Meanwhile, also in Keetmanshoop, a man died on the spot after he was stabbed with a knife by a 42-year-old suspect.
The incident occurred on Friday along Fifth Avenue at about 15h35.
The deceased, age unknown, allegedly insulted the suspect, which led to a quarrel before the deceased was stabbed.
The deceaseds next of kin are not yet informed and the police investigation continues.
In Oshakati, a 28-year-old man is in a critical condition at the Oshakati State Hospital after he was allegedly stabbed several times.
The incident occurred at Okandjengedi location on Friday at about 22h00.
A suspect was arrested and police investigations continue.
Another man died at Okongo in the Ohangwena Region after he was allegedly beaten and stabbed in the chest by two suspects at around midnight on Sunday.
The suspects, aged 26 and 28, were arrested.
The deceaseds next of kin have been informed.
In the Khomas Region, the body of a 19-year-old man was found in a pool of blood in the Okahandja Park informal settlement.
The body was found on Sunday around midnight.
The deceased had a stab wound.
He has been identified as Manlito Rittmann and his next of kin are informed.
Kanguatjivi said a 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder.
