OTJIWARONGO, 04 APR (NAMPA) - A 25-year-old man died at Otjiwarongo on Monday evening after he was smashed with a huge stone on the forehead, allegedly by his 27-year-old friend.
The deceased has been identified as Jordan Ashivudhi.
“His close relatives have been informed of his death,” said spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha.
Mbeha told Nampa in an interview on Tuesday that Ashivudhi and a male friend, now a suspect in the matter, were enjoying themselves at a local bar in the Telecom informal settlement at Otjiwarongo where they were also seen consuming alcohol shortly before the incident.
Mbeha said a heated argument between Ashivudhi and the suspect quickly escalated into a fist fight at about 21h00.
Police preliminary investigations indicate that Ashivudhi had allegedly first pulled out an Okapi pocket knife and stabbed his friend twice during their quarrel inside the bar.
He allegedly stabbed him on the right side of the chest and right arm.
The suspected man then exited the bar and returned with a huge stone which he allegedly used to smash Ashivudhi’s forehead.
Ashivudhi fell to the floor, but managed to stand on his feet again and walked few steps before he collapsed on the doorstep of the bar where he died.
The suspect jumped in a taxi and went to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital where he is receiving medical treatment on his two stab wounds.
Members of the police force arrested him at the hospital where they are guarding him in a stable condition.
He is expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court once he is discharged from the hospital.
Police investigations continue.
