OPUWO, 04 APR (NAMPA) – An 11-year-old Angolan girl was allegedly raped by a 21-year-old man on Sunday night.
Crime investigations coordinator of the Namibian Police in Kunene, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu told Nampa on Tuesday that the suspect is also an Angolan national employed at Okapundja village.
Okapundja is about 30 kilometres east of Opuwo.
It is alleged that the mother left the girl with the suspect when she went to Opuwo, but instructed her to sleep over at a neighbour’s house.
The suspect allegedly told the victim to sleep with him in the same house.
According to Kanyetu, the suspect ordered the victim who was sleeping on the floor to sleep with him on the bed.
He then undressed the victim and raped her.
“The girl was allegedly awakened by the penetration,” Kanyetu said.
The suspect was arrested and will appear in the Opuwo Magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
