WINDHOEK, 31 MAR (NAMPA) - The Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) will this weekend host the annual Doc-Tournament at the coastal town of Swakopmund.
The tournament was initiated by medical doctors as a social gathering in the early 1980s, and has become an annual event on the Namibian volleyball calendar.
The event is used as a pre-season opener for the different volleyball leagues in the country.
This year Bank Windhoek sponsored the tournament with N.dollars 30 000 that will be used for logistics and prize monies.
Games will take place on Saturday and Sunday at The Dome indoor sports complex.
Ten women’s teams and 11 men’s teams will take part.
The majority of teams are from the Khomas and Erongo regions, while one men’s team is from the Far North Affiliates and two from the Kavango East Region.
The NVF currently has offices in Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region; Rundu (Kavango East); Oshakati (Oshana Region known as Far North Affiliates), Otjiwarongo (Otjozondjupa Region), Walvis Bay (Erongo Region) and Windhoek (Khomas Region).
Last year, German women’s volleyball team, TV Bremen-Walle 1875, and the Khomas Namibian Police Volleyball Club (KNVC) men’s team were crowned champions.
