Police need fearless and brave officers: Shivute

OTJIWARONGO, 29 MAR (NAMPA) – Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Regional Commander for the Otjozondjupa Region, Commissioner Armas Shivute has urged members of the force to be brave and fearless.
Shivute made these remarks on Wednesday at the handing over of 94 medals and certificates to police officers that demonstrated bravery in executing policing duties in the region.
“The quality of being a brave police officer is being fearless, courageous and bold under difficult working conditions,” he said.
Shivute added that it is difficult circumstances and daily dangers faced in policing duties that make a police officer to become brave.
“Fellow warriors in the fight against crime, we want you to be seen by the community as an upright police officer, professional, honest, respectful and respected,” he said.
Shivute said the police must save people’s lives and protect their properties, strive for justice and to never be found on the wrong side of the law.
He warned police officers in the region that those making themselves guilty of breaking the law will be dealt with accordingly.
On his part, NamPol Otjozondjupa Deputy Commissioner, Gerhard Uataurua Mavenjono encouraged all police officers in the region to work without fear or favour and aim to achieve distinction in their duties.
“Remember that your success is our success and the success of the regional police commander, is the success of the Namibian Police Force,” he said.
Otjozondjupa has about 1 500 officers in the force.
