Boy dies after snake bite in Oshikoto

OSHAKATI, 26 MAR (NAMPA) - A 16-year-old boy reportedly died on Friday after being bitten by a snake at Okashana Kelago village in the Oshikoto Region.
The region’s Deputy Crime Investigations Coordinator, Chief Inspector Edna Nawa said in the crime report on Sunday Lukas Mwandulange was collecting mopane worms on Thursday at around 15h00 when he was bitten by the snake on his left thigh.
He was then transported to the Omuthiya district hospital, from where he was transferred to Onandjokwe Hospital on Friday. He died shortly after his arrival there.
His next of kin have been informed.
The police also reported that the 43-year-old Simon Jackson committed suicide at Ombuudiya village in the same region.
His body was found hanging from a tree by people walking by at around 10h00 on Saturday.
No suicide note was found . His next of kin have been informed.
In Tsumeb, a case of negligent driving is being investigated after a man was run over in President Avenue on Saturday at around 23h00.
The police suspect that the driver of the vehicle and 23-year-old pedestrian who was run over were both intoxicated.
“The victim, who was walking in the road facing oncoming traffic, sustained severe head injuries and was taken to the Tsumeb State Hospital,” Nawa said.
He was later transferred to the Oshakati State Hospital for further medical treatment.
The driver has been admitted to the Tsumeb hospital under police guard.
Police investigations continue.
