WINDHOEK, 26 MAR (NAMPA) University of Namibia (UNAM) Rugby Club thrashed Rehoboth Rugby Club 43-14 here on Saturday to go top of the Rugby Premier League log after three games thus far.
UNAM are currently top of the log with 16 points.
On Saturday at the UNAM Sports field in Pionierspark, the home team ran in six tries to collect a bonus point.
The home team faced stiff competition from the visitors, as Rehoboth gave it their all in the first half to make the half-time score 15-8 for UNAM.
In the second half, the league-defending champion UNAM showed their dominance and experience when they upped their tempo, which the visitors could not match, and they started to make errors.
With a win against Rehoboth, UNAM are now five points clear of Wanderers, who lost their weekend fixture against Western Suburbs by 25 to 17 points at the Wanderers Sports Field in Pionierspark.
UNAMs tries were scored by Sunday Haitembu, Cameron Classen, Bradley Klazen, Milaan van Wyk, Renaud van Neel and Silvano Beukes.
Rodney Coetze scored a drop kick, while Denver Murorua converted five of the six tries that were scored on the day to give UNAM a comfortable 43-14 win.
In other matches that played on Saturday, United beat Walvis Bay by 48-31 points while in Rehoboth, Kudus beat the home team Reho Falcons 22-15.
The current log standing after three matches sees UNAM taking the lead from Wanderers for the first time since the league started on 16 points, while Wanderers remain rooted on 11 points but are second on the log.
United are third, but level on 10 points with Western Suburbs who are fourth.
Kudus are fifth on eight points and Rehoboth sixth on six points, while Reho Falcons and Walvis Bay are sharing the last two spots on a point each.
