WALVIS BAY, 25 MAR (NAMPA) – A member of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) who was stationed at the Rooikop Military Base in Walvis Bay has been missing for nearly a month now.
An urgent missing person notice issued by the police in Walvis Bay on Friday said the 40-year-old Johannes Panduleni Shikomba went missing on 28 February.
Shikomba disappeared from his family home in Kuisebmond and no one has heard from him since.
Confirming the notice on Saturday, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Head of Community Policing in the Erongo Region, Warrant Officer Ileni Shapumba said the family approached the police to help find Shikomba.
The soldier apparently told his girlfriend he does not want to work anymore and is moving to Windhoek.
Shikomba apparently complained about being tired of his job before he went missing.
“Investigations show that he had two phones, one is on but is not being answered, while the other is off,” Shapumba said.
He noted that the family said Shikomba had a tendency of being absent without official leave (AWOL) for three to four days at a time and they thought this was another similar incident.
They however became concerned after nearly a month passed without hearing from him.
Shapumba asked that anyone with information regarding Shikomba’s whereabouts or Shikomba himself should contact the police or his family.
