SWAKOPMUND, 23 MAR (NAMPA) – The Erongo Region’s Independence celebrations will take place at Spitzkoppe next month.
The national celebration, which was addressed by President Hage Geingob, was held at Rundu in Kavango East on Tuesday.
Senior public relations officer at the Erongo Regional Council, Susanna //Hoebes told Nampa on Wednesday preparations for the event, which takes place on 01 April, are underway.
As Government’s representative, Erongo Regional Governor Cleophas Mutjavikua will share Geingob’s speech with the audience.
“We are expecting to attract a crowd of more than 2 000 people,” she said.
People can register at their constituency offices for the free transport that will be provided.
//Hoebes explained that every constituency gets a chance to host the celebration and it was decided that this year Daures will take the responsibility.
She said residents form part of the organising committee which gives them a chance to be fully involved in their own affairs and suggest what they think is best for the event.
“We are also requesting the captains of industry in the region to support us through donations so that we can host a successful celebration.”
//Hoebes said Spitzkoppe was chosen to promote tourism in the area and uplift the local economy.
Dignitaries will also be given a tour of the Spitzkoppe Mountains and craft markets where locals sell gemstones and handmade crafts, all in hopes that they will be exposed to opportunities to invest or assist in the area.
