Young girl drowns at Rundu Beach

RUNDU, 20 MAR (NAMPA) – A 14-year-old girl drowned in the Kavango River at Rundu on Sunday.
The incident occurred at around 16h00, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Kavango East Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa on Monday.
The girl, Apolonia Swarts, was from Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region.
She was in Rundu to perform at the Independence celebrations on Tuesday.
Swarts had apparently gone to Rundu Beach, a local leisure spot on the banks of the river, with friends when she drowned.
Her body had not yet been recovered by Monday and the search continues.
