A weekend of rape and suicide

WINDHOEK, 19 MAR (NAMPA) – Four rape cases and two suicides were recorded over the weekend.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Public Relations Officer (PRO), Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi released the information in a weekly crime bulletin issued here Sunday.
Shikwambi said a 15-year-old girl was Friday raped by an unknown man after she was knocked on her head and fell to the ground on the B1 Road near Tsumis Park in the Rehoboth area.
She explained it is alleged that the girl went hitchhiking from Rehoboth to Tsumis Park to visit her grandmother when the incident happened.
When the girl was dropped off at the junction to Tsumis Park, she walked alone heading home.
Shikwambi said it was then when the girl crossed a strange man, who allegedly hit her on the head, grabbed her and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. He then fled the scene.
The victim was taken to the hospital and the rape was confirmed, Shikwambi said adding that the suspect has not yet been arrested and police investigations continue.
In another separate case, a 20-year-woman was allegdly raped on Saturday at Epako village in the Omaheke Region near Herero Block after two unknown suspects stabbed her on the left hand.
It is alleged that the two men then undressed the suspect, had sexual intercourse with her and fled the scene.
Her male companion accompanied the victim and they were walking from the bar at midnight when the two men emerged from the bushes and attacked them.
Before the suspects raped her, they allegedly first stabbed her male companion in the back and robbed him of his mobile phone, a wristwatch and an empty wallet, said Shikwambi.
In yet another case, a 19-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a two-year-old toddler at Omuthiya in the Oshakati Region.
It is alleged that the incident happened on Tuesday, 14 March around 17h00 at Onashikuvu village.
The suspect is a cattle herder and allegedly raped the victim under coercive circumstances.
In an unrelated case, a 21-year-old man was Saturday found in nearby bushes of Prosperita in Windhoek, hanging from a wire on a tree.
A suicide note was found but his next of kin are not yet informed.
Another suicide case was reported at Etayi Constituency in Omusati Region, where the body of 30-year-old Johannes Tutileni was found floating in a pond at Eehongo village on Saturday.
The deceased was last seen on 18 March during the day at Onepandualo village.
The next of kin were informed and police investigations continue.
