WINDHOEK, 14 MAR (NAMPA) Windhoek City councillors have agreed to make available a plot to the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy as a way of continued support for Namibian sportsmen and women.
Speaking when he received double World Champion, Julius The Blue Machine Indongo at the municipality on Monday Mayor Muesee Kazapua said the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academys application for a plot to build a gym, had been approved.
We have engaged the academy on where they would like to get the plot and we agreed that this matter has to move very fast so as to make sure that the gym is built in time, Kazapua said.
He confirmed that the council had already taken decisions of allocating plots to football, hockey and boxing sporting codes.
Kazapua said all that is left now are technical bureaucracies, but the academy can always engage the municipality.
Nestor Tobias, the man in charge of the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy was encouraged to continue engaging the council on the plot issue until it is finalised.
Kazapua said it is the first time the municipality has allocated land for building a sporting facility.
He said Indongo had not only put Namibia on the map, but had helped bring attention to the City of Windhoek itself.
He encouraged other sportsmen and women to work hard and aim to emulate Indongo in keeping the Namibian flag high at international sporting events.
I reconfirm our commitment to the cause of sport as we all know that sport markets Windhoek on behalf of us, added Kazapua.
On his part, Tobias said the allocation of the plot was long overdue as the academy had applied 17 years ago with no positive response.
This means the future of boxing is taken care of. Definitely we are excited but cautious at the same time as we await the municipality to finalise everything with regards to the plot, Tobias said.
He said the plot would allow them to have a bigger space to train, generate money and buy sophisticated equipment for boxing.
