OTJIWARONGO, 04 MAR (NAMPA) - A 25-year-old man died Saturday morning on the way to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital after a pickup he was travelling in overturned and rolled several times on the Otjiwarongo-Okahandja road.
The deceased was identified as Nuuyoma David. He died as an ambulance rushed him to the hospital.
The vehicle had two occupants, including the 22-year-old driver.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Duty Officer in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Joseph Severus said close relatives of the deceased had been informed.
Severus told Nampa on Saturday that the accident occurred around 04h30 at approximately 90 kilometres south of Otjiwarongo.
He said the white pickup was towing a trailer from the direction of Okahandja to Otjiwarongo at the time of the accident.
It is alleged the driver lost control over the vehicle on a “gentle” curve.
The vehicle veered off the road causing it to overturn and roll several times with its trailer.
The driver sustained body injuries and was admitted to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital in a stable condition.
A culpable homicide case has been opened at the Otjiwarongo Police Station against the driver.
Police investigations continue.
