WINDHOEK, 15 OCT (NAMPA) – Preparations for the international water conference slated for later this month are going as planned, and many local service providers will also benefit from the event.
The ninth International Water Association (IWA) Conference on Water Reclamation will run from 27 to 31 October 2013 at a local hotel.
It will be attended by water experts from among others the United States of America (USA), Europe, South America, Japan, China, Singapore, Australia, Mexico and South Africa.
The chairperson of the local organising committee, Piet du Pisani, said in a media statement issued on Tuesday the five-day event will generate jobs and provide income for local companies.
“We are proud to be engaging local services providers to make this event a success. All goods and services are sourced locally, and this is a great opportunity not only to showcase Namibia’s technical ability in water re-use, but also Namibia’s capabilities in hosting events,” he said.
Local companies include Sphere Namibia for the design and production of conference bags); Omba Arts Trust (San communities all over Namibia produced lanyards made from ostrich egg shells); CONSOAV (audio and visual equipment); Vulkan Ruine Tours and Transfers (transportation); and Tamonika Events (décor and food).
The entertainers will include the Tswana Cultural Group “Black Melody”, Kavango Cultural Group “D. Siteketa”, as well as the “Suide maak Vrede” group.
The water scientists at the conference will discuss issues like re-use of water for irrigation, potable re-use, desalination, climate change and groundwater recharge.
