Shaningwa warns staff on unnecessary expenditure

WINDHOEK, 16 FEB (NAMPA) Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Sophia Shaningwa has asked senior officials in her ministry to ensure strict supervision over the work of their units and to limit unnecessary expenditure.
Speaking during the annual staff address at the ministry headquarters here on Thursday, Shaningwa urged Permanent Secretary Nghidinua Daniel and senior managers to minimise on unnecessary expenditure.
The Minister said she wants managers and staffs to complete tasks during normal working hours and to drastically reduce traveling.
“Staff members should make use of effective and cost-saving information technologies such as video-conferencing and the Internet to communicate instead of traveling for meetings.”
She also called upon Daniel to ensure the Ministry’s directives on overtime and the holding of meetings and workshops outside the duty station are duly adhered to.
She said the habit of people sneaking out of office for private matters during working hours and the “Thank God it is Friday” attitude will not be tolerated.
“All of us have signed Performance Agreements, which must be reviewed every quarter as per the guidelines and directives from the Office of the Prime Minister and the Presidency,” she noted.
