SWAKOPMUND, 14 FEB (NAMPA) – Iita Titus, one of two suspects accused of kidnapping a toddler in Swakopmund last December, was granted bail of N.dollars 3 000 on Monday.
Titus, 27, was arrested with his girlfriend Elina Nangula Jonas, 27, at Outapi in the Omusati Region on 28 December.
The couple appeared before Magistrate Surita Savage in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court.
Jonas was remanded in police custody as the main suspect and to allow for further police investigations.
Among other conditions, Titus is expected to not interfere with State witnesses and to report to court on 10 April for their third appearance.
Court records indicate that on the day of the incident, Jonas asked the one-year-and-11-month-old boy’s mother, Ndahafa Namweya, to spend time with him, as she always did.
However, she and Titus allegedly disappeared with the boy to Outapi.
Local media reports say Jonas allegedly lied to Titus that they have a son and went to Titus’s father in Outapi to introduce the boy as their son.
The father became suspicious after hearing media reports about a missing boy and reported the matter to the police.
The duo was apprehended and the boy reunited with his mother.
