DFF sports tournament receives cash donation

WINDHOEK, 11 FEB (NAMPA) – The Defence Force Foundation (DFF) has donated N.dollars 100 000 towards the hosting of the 2017 annual DFF Sports Tournament which will be held in Windhoek by the 21 Motorised Infantry Battalion from 26 May to 01 June 2017.
In a speech read on his behalf, Army Commander Lieutenant General John Mutwa said promoting sport within the defence forces will contribute to the physical fitness of troops which is a basic requirement of military life.
“Sports also plays an important role in enhancing esprit-de-corps, moral, personal development and ultimately, the operational effectiveness of the troops,” Mutwa said.
In 2012, the management committee of the defence forces passed a resolution to plough back N.dollars 100 000 as a sponsorship towards hosting of the DFF Sport tournament on a yearly basis.
In 2013 the games were held in Grootfontein, while in 2014 they were held in Walvis Bay.
In 2015 the games went back to Grootfontein and in 2015, were held in Otjiwarongo.
This will be the first time Windhoek hosts the military games.
In his speech, Mutwa called on all district headquarters, directorates, formations and units to support the organising 21 Motorised Infantry Battalion in the preparation and hosting of the tournament.
More than 700 athletes are expected to converge in Windhoek, with the games expected to promote welfare and establish recreational facilities for the use and benefits all its members and their families.
It will also promote the operational effectiveness of the troops in general.
