WALVIS BAY, 11 FEB (NAMPA) – Walvis Bay Rural District Coordinator for the Swapo Party, Paulus Kauhondamwa is encouraging party members to support President Hage Geingob’s candidacy for Swapo president.
Former Head of State, Hifikepunye Pohamba is the Swapo president and Geingob is the acting party president.
Speaking at the annual opening of the district for 2017 in Walvis Bay on Thursday, Kauhondamwa asked all structures in Erongo Region to rally behind Geingob
“In the spirit of unity and peace, our district as a disciplined and progressive structure, we give our full support to His Excellency Hage Geingob for the Swapo presidency at the congress this year.”
Regional conferences will elect representatives to the congress and Kauhondamwa said he hopes the process is peaceful.
He, who is also a councillor on the Walvis Bay Town Council, emphasised unity in the party, noting that division, tribalism and the disturbance of peace should be avoided to create a credible and peaceful environment in the harbour town.
“Let us embrace each other, irrespective of our status in society. Let us guard against regionalism and live up to the noble ideals for which many of our brave compatriots sacrificed their lives for.”
Kauhondamwa encouraged members to recruit more as 2016 did not see much recruitment.
“Leaders of the structures and wings must always ensure that all our members are taught about the Swapo constitution so that we adhere, protect and implement the principles of the Swapo-Party constitution.”
Meanwhile, outspoken Job Amupanda has expressed his interest to contest the Swapo Party presidency.
The young politician was quoted in the local media as saying it should be normal for young people to contest such positions.
