ONGWEDIVA, 17 JAN (NAMPA) – A 27-year-old truck driver was Monday arrested in the Ongha area in the Ohangwena Region on a charge of theft.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s public relations unit in the region confirmed the arrest of the man, who was employed by Epic Company.
Sergeant Abner Kaume Iitumba told Nampa on Tuesday the truck driver and three young boys were caught red-handed with bags of maize and are due to appear in the Eenhana Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
“The driver diverted the truck from the Ondangwa-Oshikango main road into the bush where they were found loading off some bags of maize at around 18h00,” Iitumba said.
The Sergeant said the pick-up in which the suspects were allegedly found loading the bags from the truck drove off and is yet to be tracked down.
The truck, Iitumba said, had come from South Africa and was set to deliver the bags at Oshikango, where they were to be loaded onto a different truck and taken to Angola.
“Investigating officers are hard at work to track down the driver of the pick-up and a young boy who fled from the scene,” Iitumba said.
The Police apprehended the suspects after a tip-off from the local community.
