Women allegedly kills cousin over cigarette

RUNDU, 16 JAN (NAMPA) - A 51-year-old woman died here on Saturday after being hit over the head with a stick – reportedly in a fight over a cigarette.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Kavango East Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa on Monday the incident occurred at Likwaterera village in the Rundu District at around 19h00 that day.
Bampton said the deceased allegedly asked her 41-year-old cousin for a cigarette, which led to an argument between the two.
The suspect allegedly picked up the stick and hit the deceased on the forehead.
She was arrested and will appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
In an unrelated incident, a 42-year-old man was Friday attacked and killed by a hippo.
The deceased, who has been identified as David Thihupe, was attacked on the banks of the Okavango River at Karenga village in the Divundu District.
His body was recovered on Saturday at around 11h00 and was taken to the Andara District Hospital mortuary.
His next of kin were informed and police investigations continue.
