Bike accident victims identified

WINDHOEK, 15 JAN (NAMPA) – The police on Sunday released the names of the two people who died in a motorbike accident in Windhoek.
The deceased have been identified as WJ Koopman, the biker who was 44, and senior prison officer Diamante Kapoko, 49.
The accident occurred along Independence Avenue.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Warrant Officer Immanuel Lazarus said at the weekly crime briefing the accident occurred at around 11h00 on Saturday.
The biker, allegedly speeding from Katutura towards the central business district, hit the prison officer who was crossing Independence Avenue a few metres from the Windhoek Central Correctional Facility, where he was employed.
City Police spokesperson, Fabian Amukwelele told Nampa at the accident scene on Saturday they did not know the exact speed of the motorbike, but considering the impact and extent of the damage to the motorbike, speeding was involved.
Both men died on the spot and their next of kin have been informed.
