ONGWEDIVA, 03 JAN (NAMPA) – President Hage Geingob is expected to launch ‘Operation Iilonga’ at the Ogongo Constituency in the Omusati Region on Wednesday.
Chairperson of the regional council, Modestus Amutse made the announcement in a telephonic interview with Nampa on Tuesday.
The Operation Iilonga initiative is the first of its kind in the country.
‘Iilonga’ means work in Oshiwambo.
Amutse said the initiative is aimed at motivating farmers in the country to engage in serious land cultivation, as good rain is predicted for this rainy season.
The launch will take place at the crop field of Shitana Shiilonga in the Onamundidi village.
This venue is where the Ogongo Agricultural Campus of the University of Namibia (UNAM) has been conducting rice-planting trials for the past few years.
Amutse appealed to the community of the region and beyond to join Geingob in launching Operation Iilonga.
