Minor drowns in sealed water container

ONGWEDIVA, 02 JAN (NMPA) – A three-year-old boy drowned after he was sealed in a container full of water by a cousin in the Omundjalala village of the Omusati Region’s Anamulenge Constituency on Saturday.
Police in the region arrested a 27-year-old woman on Sunday on a charge of murder, said Warrant Officer Linekela Shikongo of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Public Relations Unit in the region.
The boy has been identified as Angula Kahima.
“She allegedly put the deceased in a container full of water and tightly closed it with the lid that resulted in the boy’s death,” Shikongo explained.
The suspect is due to make her first court appearance at Outapi on Tuesday.
In a separate matter, a 27-year-old man from the Onaniki village in the Omusati Region was charged with the murder of Elikana Iingo Ndatoolewe Uuyage.
The suspect allegedly hit the deceased with a beer bottle on the forehead on 19 December 2016 at around 02h00 in the Uukwandongo village of the Ongandjera Traditional district during a scuffle.
The deceased was rushed to the Okahao District Hospital but was later transferred to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, where he died on 30 December 2016.
The suspect was arrested the same day.
He is expected to appear in the Okahao Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The next of kin of both deceased persons have already been informed of their deaths.
